Eager to see the new Pink Panther re-make? I wouldn’t bother – like all re-makes, it’ll be rubbish, with Hollywood forgetting that it’s not necessarily a script that makes a movie, it’s the cast – and that’s never more true when it involves Peter Sellers.
Proof of this will surely be found in the new Peter Sellers Collection. It features 4 of his finest moments plus the usual extras. It includes the Oscar-nominated satire on nuclear war – Dr Strangelove, the 1959 comedy The Mouse That Roared (about a small Duchy declaring war on the US) and the Woody Allen-penned What’s New Pussycat, with Sellers as the bonkers Dr Fritz Fassbender.
That’s only 3 surely? Well yes, because the best is saved for last. The Party, with Sellers as an Indian actor who ruins a big Hollywood bash is, in my opinion, one of the funniest films ever made. You’ll laugh, you’ll cringe, you’ll watch it over and over again. Worth buying the boxset just for that.
