If you saw a Miffy book, card or toy in the shop for the first time today, you’d swear the design was contemporary. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. Miffy is celebrating her 50th birthday, having sold an amazing 85 million books worldwide in that time.
Miffy was born when Dick Bruna sketched a rabbit for his one-year-old son. A vast selection of subsequent drawings from the Bruna archive in Holland are now on display at the Manchester Art Gallery, along with personal letters and allsorts of Miffy memorabilia, as a tribute to the cartoon bunny’s 50 years in existence.
The gallery is also hosting parties, hands-on activities and puppet shows. Check out the website for details of all these Miffy events.
