It’s the British Motor Show – which usually means the odd quirky retro car on the stands. First up is a car that’s about as retro as it gets – the Julietta sports car from British firm Aquila.
Buyers can choose between the Julietta, which is a stripped-out version with no windscreen for £18,000 or the Julietta S, which sounds more like my cup of tea. That’s because it has more of the home comforts (apart from a windscreen) you really need. In fact, for the extra cash, you get pretty much everything you’d expect from a regular forecourt car, including satellite navigation and fully adjustable suspension to tune the ride and handling to your own tastes.
Under the bonnet is a Ford engine – with a choice of 1.8-litre or 2.0-litre – the latter offering 0-60mph in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 130mph.
The looks of a classic with the performance of a modern sports car. If you’ve got the cash, it’s got to be worth a look.
