If you’ve ever browsed round the food and drink section of Selfridges, you may have noticed some soft drinks that look like they’ve popped up from a corner shop from the 1930s. They’re Mawson’s drinks – and in suitably vintage flavours – CreamSoda, Dandelion and Burdock and Sarsaparilla, not to mention those vintage bottles.
The drinks are made in Oldham – and have been since 1933, where the company has grown from a herbal shop dishing out drinks to deal with a variety of ailments to suppliers of the smart retail set. They’re available as "old style" cordial or the slightly more modern fizzy drinks. We’ve become slightly addicted to them in the warm weather – and can heartily recommend the fizzy Sarsaparilla!
And if you’re not in the Oldham area and don’t do your food shopping at Selfridges, you’ll be pleased to know they have a website and can ship bottles over to you mail order.
