Andy Smith is still probably best-known for being Portishead’s tour DJ, but on his own and since leaving that set-up, he’s produced some great albums.
His Document series has effortlessly mixed together vintage grooves from across the board with more contemporary beats, while his Northern Soul album was a good introduction to that particular genre.
His latest work is Andy Smith’s Trojan Document. It’s a trip through the Trojan Records back catalogue, starting from the earliest days of ska, through rocksteady, dub and more mainstream reggae. A review of the album is now on our sister site, Modculture. If you’ve ever had an urge to dip your toe into Trojan, it might be worth checking it out.
