With the Nicholas Cage version on the horizon (and promising very little), now seems like a good time to re-discover the original Wicker Man, especially as it’s due for an impressive reissue as The Wicker Man Collector’s Edition – a 3 disc set, which is released on September 4th.
Directed by Robin Hardy and starring Edward Woodward Britt Ekland Diane Cilento, Christopher Lee and Ingrid Pitt, it;s the story of a policeman, called to a remote Scottish Island in search of a missing girl, only to discover a secret pagan society that leads him to his own doom.
This new DVD set offers the film in its original theatrical version and the Director’s Cut, including 15 minutes of footage that was thought lost for decades. There’s also commentary from Christopher Lee, Edward Woodward, and Director Robin Hardy, along with two documentaries – The Wicker Man Enigma and Burnt Offering: The Cult of The Wicker Man and the original press book. Disc three contains the film’s folky soundtrack.
The set should retail for around £20, but Amazon are doing pre-orders for £13.49.
