La Chaise by Charles and Ray Eames

I’m not sure if a chaise longue is essential furniture for the modern-day home, but if you have to have one, may we suggest La Chaise by Charles and Ray Eames?

It looks every bit the modern item of furniture, but amazingly, it was first introduced in 1948, with a design inspired by a sculpture by Gaston Lachaise. It’s made from two fibreglass shells cemented together, with the addition of a chromed underframe  on a natural oak cruciform base.

Much more of a talking point than a comfortable place to lounge, you can pick it up for just over £4,000.
