The first week of June 2007 means it’s 30 years since the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and the release of The Sex Pistols’ God Save the Queen with its infamous collage cover by Jamie Reid. To coincide with these events, the Barbican Art Gallery is staging Panic Attack! Art in the Punk Years.
The exhibition explores art produced from the mid-70s to the mid-80s in Britain and America, during the punk and post-punk years. There’s around 150 works by around 30 artists, including photography, painting, performance, film and video, along with talks and discussions (details to be announced). And if you want a permanent record, there’s also a 224-page book to accompany the exhibition, priced at £29.95.
The exhibition runs from 5th June – 9th September 2007.
