Coming soon: Pop Art at London's National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery in London is planning to stage its first exhibition devoted entirely to pop art from both the US and UK, running from 11th October to 20th January and under the name Pop Art Portraits.
Details are a bit sketchy right now, but it's likely to include works by Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Ray Johnson, Sir Peter Blake and David Hockney, with highlights including a Warhol self-portrait, Lichtenstein's iconic In the Car (right) and a room devoted entirely to Marilyn Monroe.
Sandy Nairne, director of the National Portrait Gallery, said: "Pop Art Portraits creates an exciting opportunity to see an important art movement in a new light - the portrait is recreated through the work of these artists."
More on this nearer the launch.
