Gorenje retro-style fridge

Gorenje_fridge_3 Fancy a Smeg-like fridge, but don't fancy paying a Smeg price? You should check out the Gorenje retro-style fridge range.

This European company is making a push into the UK - and this fridge is one of its fastest-moving items. No surprise really, it's available in a range of interesting colours, including vanilla, silver and the burgundy pictured here, it's eco-friendly (A+ rated) and it comes with a five years parts and labour deal.

Check out the full size and specification here. And if it matches up to your requirements, here's the good news - they're priced between £550 and £650. That's considerably cheaper than the lowest-priced Smeg. Is the label worth the extra few hundred quid? We don't think so.

... and a whole lot more sturdy than a Smeg.

It was with great regret that I had to sell my Smeg recently. I loved it, but it wasn't nearly room enough and bits of the inside kept breaking.

Anyway, don't know why I haven't thought to post here before, but my wife an I are renovating our kitchen using original 50s English Rose Kitchen aluminium units that we're stripping down and refurbishing ourselves and to take my mind off the pain I'm blogging the whole thing at http://www.englishrosekitchen.co.uk

Totally agree! My Smeg is falling apart and has now packed up for good. The light never worked, the door seal had to be replaced in the first few weeks of owning it and just about every compartment on the door is broken. I loved it but wish I had known more about the bad build quality before I bought one. Anyone want a broken Smeg?

Rachel Mellish

I am very disappointed in my 2 year old Smeg fab 28. It doesn't keep good temperature and has a pool of water in the bottom.
How good are the Gorenje fridges? I don't want to make another bad purchase, but love the Smeg look.

Hi there, I have just bought a cream gorenje fridge, to replace a 5 year old SMEG, had several problems with the SMEG, bits breaking off, seals not working, freezer compartment door breaking etc. The Gorenje has just arrived, it's almost a spitting image of the SMEG and looks very similar inside, does anyone know if they are made by the same manufacturer?

Ruth

Hi Susi

I can confirm that in the past we manufactured smeg fridges, but we do not anymore. Gorenje makes their own retro collection at their own factory on the Gorenje site

If i can help with anything, please do let me know..and enjoy your retro :)
