1970s Telephone Bag - the original mobile phone

Telephonebag

We might think of the the mobile phone as a fairly recent innovation, but back in the 1970s, the more fashionable were already taking their handsets out and about.

And they were doing it with the Telephone Bag. Yes, this is a working telephone, built into a handbag. And incredibly 70s bag it is is too, in shiny red or black vinyl with a long shoulder strap. On the technical side, it has a receiver, buttons for dialling and connectivity to plug into a phone socket.

And you can still pick one up online, priced at $295, which is around £150.
