For sale: Apartment on the mid-century Golden Lane Estate in London

Golden

An apartment in a development with a heritage is available in central London - in Basterfield House on the Grade II-listed Golden Lane Estate.

It was designed by Chamberlin, Powell & Bon - the same people who later constructed the Barbican. They won a competition to construct a modern housing development to replace bombed housing from World War II - finally producing brightly-coloured developments with communal areas and courtyards.

Basterfield House was completed in 1957, with the flat for sale offering fairly open living, including the original open-tread cantilevered concrete stairs, two double bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen and reception. And as a bonus, residents get the use of a swimming pool, as well as tennis and badminton courts, at 'preferential' rates, along with guest bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms on the estate that can be booked for the night.

The price is £485,000 for the leasehold property - not cheap, but certain to be a sought-after location for years to come.
