For sale: Louis Kahn-designed mid-century Esherick House in Philadelphia, USA

Wright

Would you pay between $2 million and $3 million for a one-bedroom house? You'll have to if you want the Esherick House in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia in the USA.

The Louis Kahn-designed house dates back to 1961 and is being offered at auction in (more or less) its original condition. Constructed of warm beige concrete and natural Apitong wood, this 2,500 sq ft, one-bedroom house features a custom-designed kitchen by sculptor Wharton Esherick - one of his last remaining intact interiors, and was awarded the prestigious Landmark Building Award in 1992.

There's also one and a half bathrooms, a large double-height living room and around half an acre of land. Check out the site to see images of the place (the one above doesn't really do it enough justice), then go and see the bank manager. It's up for auction on Sunday 18th May.
