Retro TV W/C 27th February 2009

Barry Murphy returns once more trawl the TV and radio guides (so you don't have to) to find anything worth tuning into this week. All listings are for UK terrestrial TV, Freeview and national radio, with the shows running from Friday 27th February to Thursday 5th March 2009.

Highlights of the week

The Red Riding Trilogy starts Thursday 5th March at 9pm on Channel 4. The TV adaptation of David Peace's cult noir novels feature a stellar cast of celebrated actors including Sean Bean, Paddy Considine, Andrew Garfield, David Morrissey and Maxine Peake. The three feature-length films are set in Yorkshire during the 1970s and 80s - a time of paranoia, mistrust, corruption and the terrifying legacy of the Ripper murders. In the first episode rookie journalist Eddie Dunford is determined to get to the truth behind the complex police investigations into a series of child abductions.

Jean Widmer Chaussures print for Habitat

We don't know a great deal about Jean Widmer, but we do know we love this Chaussures print, produced for Habitat.

When it is from? Again, we don't know for sure, but as much of the Swiss-born designer's magazine and retail work was done in France in the 1960s, we can be sure it's dated from that era. Indeed, that face staring out from the shoes in black and white literally screams the era.

The print itself is sized at 50 x 70cm, framed in a black wood frame and available to buy online (and probably instore) for £60.

Rudy shoes from Monsoon

Low and mid heel shoes are a great route to retro style and Monsoon are eschewing the towering heels of other high street shops to give us some great options. These Rudy shoes are one of the many lower heel designs in a retro theme.

It's always good to see cool retro design that doesn't cost a fortune - and thats certainly the case with the Newgate Metro clock.

Oozing that 1930s vibe, the Metro mantel clock is a smaller version of the original wall-based Metro, keeping the same look, curves and vintage-style digits, but reducing the size and adding an alarm.
