In collaboration with Sotheby’s, the Chris Beetles Gallery in London will be hosting a Cecil Beaton: Retrospective next month, the most comprehensive showing of his work in recent years.
Cecil Beaton’s career as a fashion and portrait photographer spanned several decades and placed him at the centre of fashionable society, giving him unrivalled access to the rich and famous. His subjects included the Sitwells and “Bright Young Things” of the 1920s, the Royal Family and later stars such as Mick Jagger, Marilyn Monroe and Andy Warhol. His portraits combined his talent for staging with imaginative use of props and referencing art history to create compelling images.
The exhibition comprises of around 70 images, featuring Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Gilbert and George, and members of the Royal family. Each print will be available to buy in a limited edition of 50.
