Jean Prouvé standard chair
Here's another design classic from the Jean Prouvé stable that's been re-issued by Vitra. It's called the standard chair, but in fact it's far more unusual than the name suggests. It was designed in 1934 and utilises the steel that Prouvé was known for during this period. Because he worked out that the weight of the chair would sit on the back legs, these are much larger and sturdier than the tubular front legs which creates a distinctive look, not to mention a sense of stability. The main seat and back are made from wood.
