Steve McQueen's personal TAG Heuer Monaco watch up for auction

Queen_monaco

It's one of the most famous watches in the world - and the Steve McQueen TAG Heuer Monaco watch could be yours if you're willing to bid for it at auction.

No, not one of the many reissues of the watch, this is the real deal, worn by the movie icon during the making of Le Mans. It's being auctioned online and in-house by Antiquorum as part of its Important Collectors’ Wristwatches Pocket Watch & Clocks sale on June 11th 2009. Ok, it's showing signs of wear and tear, but it seems in decent condition for a watch approaching 40 years old.

McQueen gave the watch to his financial advisor as a 'thank you' for his help and is now being sold by that man, with an estimate of $10,000 - $ 20,000 (£6,500 - £13,000). Not cheap, but you are buying movie history. See over the page for a bigger close-up of the watch.
