New on the shelves for Christmas, London Babylon (The Beatles and The Stones in the Swinging Sixties) by Steve Overbury looks worthy of your attention if you're a fan of the swinging decade.

Don't be put off by the title, according to the spiel, the book is underpinned by the two bands, but also focuses on the 'bit-part players' of the scene – dope dealers, art dealers, dolly birds, drivers and slaves, fashionistas, villains and aristocrats – the in crowd, the jet set, the jeunesse d'orée, along with others who shared the limelight during that decade.
