Ok, the sun is out, so our thoughts turn to garden furniture, which doesn't get any classier than this Artek garden furniture by Alvar Aalto.

Designed by Aalto around 1938-39 for Villa Mairea (the house he designed for friends Harry and Maire Gullichsen), it has the designer's distinctive modernist spin across the range. A range that includes a garden chair, a lounger and two types of table.

The materials are certainly above what you would expect too, a mix of lacquered birch plywood, laminate and brass. Although that does bring its own problems – the entire range isn't keen on rain and humidity.

But when the sun is shining, there's nothing finer. Prices vary depending on your choice of item, but as a guide, the 330 and 332 tables sell for 695 and 960 Euros respectively, the 321 lounger is yours for 845 Euros and the 310 chair is 550 Euros.
