The Lost Album by Basil Hyman

112378
For an insight into the minutiae of everyday life in the 1950's check out Basil Hyman's The Lost Album. Regular readers and mid-century furniture enthusiasists will recognise Hyman's name from another book featured in these pages, The G-Plan Revolution but in addition to his career in the furniture business, Hyman was a keen amateur photographer who documented the humdrum and commonplace.

The Festival of Britian and the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II are covered in the book, but of special interest are the facsimiles of ephemera from the time; ration books, tube tickets and newspaper clippings which provide a unique snapshot of the everyday.

The Lost Album is available from Amazon for £16.50 - check it out here.
