Self-help books aren't are usual thing, but we'll make an exception when it comes to this 1930s guide, How to be a Good Lover.

The book addresses such vital questions such as "what is the ideal age gap for marriage?" and "should one kiss in a canoe?".  The book was written in the 1930s, alongside similar guides on how to be a good wife and a good husband. These books were aimed at the growing middle classes and were amongst the first books to offer relationship advice, something that has become a publishing staple since. The advice, at turns funny and sensible, is accompanied by illustrations the period.  It costs £4.99 – worth investing in before embarking on a new relationship.
