Vitra Black Petal clock

George Nelson's clocks are still eye-catching designs, even over 50 years after they were originally produced. Even so, his Petal wall clock has been given a make-over for 2013 by Vitra and now is available in a new black finish.

The colourful original was in production from 1956 to 58, and can been seen as representing the mood of change in that period in the States. So I'm not sure what this new colour scheme says about the mood of our times. While it retains the distinctive shape of the original, the black petals certainly make for a more glamorous look, especially when combined with the gold detailing.
