The original James Bond watch heads up the Pop Culture exhibition and auction at Christie’s London

If you ever wander round car boot sales wondering if there is still a bargain out there, this tale of the original custom James Bond watch should warm your heart.

Pictured above is the Breitling-made 'Thunderball watch' from 1965, the first watch specially adapted for James Bond. It's a stainless steel chronograph timepiece that was modified with its own set of unique features for Bond. It is signed 'V.T.C., made for Sean Connery as James Bond in the 1965 United Artists/EON Productions film Thunderball.'

Amazingly, it was recently bought for £25 from a car boot sale. The estimate here is an eye-watering £40,000 – £60,000.

If that's a bit much, check out the rest of the more modestly-priced lots from film, music and art, all of which can be seen at a public exhibition from 22nd – 26th June at Christie's, Old Brompton Road in London. Entry to see the 252 lots is free, with an auction on 26th June, should anything (including the Bond watch) catch your eye.
