Too good to be a toy; not as precious as a work of art: this 1920s-style Mefistofele Racer from Playsam is just a very nice thing indeed.

Playsam are a Swedish company who manufacture wooden collectibles. Occasionally they produce large pieces such as their 40s-ride on Roadster, but mainly its smaller objects, with a nice line in wooden planes and automobiles.

The smooth forms of this racer are based on the Mefistofele racing car which, in 1924, broke the then-standing land speed record. Measuring 19cm across, the sleek wood and shiny wheels help create the look of a machine built for speed.

You can order the car in a number of colours. As well as the red and green options pictured, there's also a white version available.

You can pick one up for £57 from Scandinavian Design Center
