This actually started out as a Kickstarter project. A successful one too as True Originals: An OG Adidas Selection 1970 – 1993 is now available to buy.
The book is the work of Marlon Knispel, coming in at 196 pages and described as a ‘fan tribute’ to the original Adidas models (the ‘OGs’) from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
The illustrated book shows more than 100 original shoes, presented chronologically according to their market launch. It also features legendary athletes and musicians who have benefitted from their own signature models as well as interviews with collectors, obsessives, retailers and others, painted a picture of both the brand and its huge fanbase.
You can actually get more detail and photography from the original Kickstarter page, although it’s no longer available to order from there. In fact, you can get it from Amazon and for much less than the list price ahead of its release this week. £29.25 to be precise.
