Stella Artois offers 1960s European New Wave movies for free online

Masc

Absolutely free classic European cinema, that's what you get with the Stella Artois presents Recyclage de lux online film festival.

It's a week-long online film festival featuring classic European new wave movies, Stella Artois teaming up with movie website The Auteurs to offer a different film per day from December 15th, completely free – the first time these movies have been shown online for free and without the need to register.

The films have been curated by The Auteurs and include François Truffaut’s The 400 Blows and Jules and Jim, and Jean-Luc Godard’s Vivre Sa Vie starring his wife and muse Anna Karina. Stella Artois is also using the movies in its latest ad campaign, both via YouTube and on TV. Want to know more? Check out the website, or log onto it from that December 15th date.

Beyond the Beat Generation website

BTBG

The perfect accompaniment to writing articles for Retro To Go, is music from the website Beyond The Beat Generation. The site bills itself as an archive of museum of “long forgotten 'wild' musical gems out of the great years of the sixties (1965-1969).”

They broadcast 24 hours a day and have a huge catalogue of underground, psychedelic and garage music from the Sixties, which apparently includes 67 versions of "Gloria" or 132 versions of "Hey Joe." As well as listening to some fantastic music, you can also read transcriptions of interviews with obscure bands, or look at photographs from that era.

To indulge in the full Sixties experience, visit Beyond the Beat Generation.

Culture Label website

Culture label combined

The Culture Label website is a new venture which brings together products from over 60 cultural institutions and looks like a great first port of call when trying to source more unusual gifts. All the major museums, such as the Tate and the V&A are there but it also links to smaller museums from around the UK and culturally related retailers such as Thames and Hudson books, Tatty Devine jewellery and Beyond the Valley design goods.

The site enables you to browse through products and select your favourites, searching by using product areas, price or themes. For example, the items above are all found under the 'retro' tag: a Calder Elephant puzzle from the Tate, a Nelson clock from the Lighthouse in Glasgow and a Make Do and Mend book from the Imperial War Museum. When you want to buy, the site takes you through to the individual websites. It's a fantastic idea and hopefully the range of goods, retailers and themes for searching will continue to grow to make it a one stop shop for cultural gifts.

Introducing… Switched On Art

Switchedonart

Yes, we have another site on the go, although we're keeping Switched On Art fairly low-key for now.

The idea of Switched On Art is to feature anything interesting art-related, new art, new prints, related merchandise, gallery showing, books – you know the kind of thing. It'll be updated as when we find items worth featuring and will be written by real people for real people. None of that art snobbery here. There will also be an emphasis on new and affordable artwork too, as opposed to the highly-priced gallery works – art we can all afford or aspire to, in other words.

Check it out via the link below and feel free to add to your feed readers (no daily email as yet for this site). And if you want to know more or want to recommend something to feature, you can email the site at [email protected]
