Graham and Green dove vases

G&G dove vase

Graham and Green are the latest high street retailer to start selling the folk trend with these dove vases from their Spring range.

Although they're a contemporary design, the vases definitely have got a vintage look. The use of such 70s-style motifs has been cropping up a lot recently, from Sanna Annukka's soul birds to Donna Wilson's bird nest plate, while the crackle green glaze adds to the impression that these might have been picked up in a charity shop, rather than online.

The vases come in two sizes and prices. The smaller vase is 31cm high and costs £36 and the larger is an extra 7cm tall and costs £48.

Birds Nest Plate by Donna Wilson

Donna Wilson bird

We've already seen how Donna Wilson's retro style can transfer onto homewares with her sprig tableware for SCP. There's now more ceramic designs available from her online store, including this Birds Nest plate.

The plate, which is handmade and printed in Stoke on Trent, uses a very 70s image and colour scheme. As with her other pieces – across furniture, textiles and ceramics – it's updated in Wilson's trademark style for the twenty-first century.

This fresh take on a classic motif costs £20.

70s style magnetic bird notice board

Magnetic bird
There's all kinds of 70s folk inspired homewares cropping up on the high street right now. This magnetic bird notice board certainly fits into that category.

The board has a very Scandinavian look and is made from steel with a nice decorative pattern on its tale. For even more of a peace and love feel, the design is also available as a white dove.

Measuring 58cm across this piece costs £35 but you can also get mini, individual bird magnets to use with it (or on their own) for £1.95 each.

LSA Rooster mugs

LSA rooster

Like LSA's Zabo vases we featured earlier in the year, you'd be forgiven for thinking these Rooster mugs were an older Scandinavian item. In fact they are another contemporary design by Monika Lubkowska-Jones. The mugs have a folk art look, each mug featuring a slight variant on a basic design of the silhouettes of two roosters.

A set features all four designs, each on a different colour mug, and costs £20.

Solitaire’s Owl Christmas card

Card_xmas_owl_sml

2009 has surely been the year of the owl revival. They've been everywhere, from clocks to prints to tea towels. What better way to mark the end of the year then than sending an owl Christmas card? Solitaire have produced this lovely retro-style design showing our favourite feathered friend amidst a snowy scene of pine cones and snow flakes.

It's hand-screen printed and uses recycled materials for the card and envelope. Solitaire also have several other designs with a similar feel that show traditional festive subject matter such as Christmas wreaths and crackers. Each card costs £3.

Decoylabs Night Owl clock

Decoylab night owl clock

You can't have failed to notice the huge influx of owls currently appearing on homewares and stationery. Why complain when the birds featured look as nice as they do on this night owl clock made by Decoylabs? The image of the owl looks like it is taken from a children's illustrated book from the 60s or 70s but actually is the work of illustrator Maiko Kuzunishi. The clock comes in eight different colour combination and is made simply from digitally printed archival paper mounted onto board.

It's suggested for use in a kid's room but it looks far too appealing for that! The clock costs just $30 through her Etsy site.
