RockerA063199_070_b

Mid-century inspired rocking-chairs are a perennial favourite on these pages and retailers seem more than happy to keep the new designs coming. The latest offering is this Finn Rocker from Anthropologie.

The chair is made of hardwood with a clear mid-century inspiration behind the simple but elegant design. Upholstered in bright goldenrod linen it has covered arms and comfortable back and seat cushions, perfect for whiling away the hours with a good book.

The chair isn't cheap at £1198 but it's statement piece you'll value for years to come. Avaiable from Anthropologie, check it out online here.

New Vintage Monet Print Prom Dress from Oasis

  5550031200_1

Oasis do a retro-style dress better than most and their latest New Vintage summer collection is no exception.

There are five dresses in the range including this Monet Print Prom Dress; a show-stopping floral silk number with a single strap and ruched bandeau body. The skirt is classic prom-dress with a nipped-in waist and full skirt with net underlay.

At £150, the dress is at the top end of the Oasis price spectrum but the romantic style won't date so should carry it through for many seasons to come. The range also includes fabric bags and scarves in similarly nostalgic prints.

1930s Berthold Lubetkin-designed modernist house on Genesta Road, Plumstead, London SE18

Plum1

It's a style that doesn't appeal to everyone, but from architectural perspective, this 1930s Berthold Lubetkin-designed modernist house on Genesta Road, Plumstead, London SE18 is one of the most significant period houses in Britain.

A mid-terrace house, it's one of a group of four properties designed by Lubetkin in the early 30s, grade II-listed and one of the last few properties remaining by Lubetkin and his Tecton practice, alongside the penguin pool at London Zoo, Finsbury Health Centre and the Highpoint flats in Highgate.

TwentyTwentyOne warehouse sale – up to 85 per cent off design classics

Warehouse

We are fans of TwentyTwentyOne, which has plenty design classics on its racks, including some more obscure items (like the 1950s Hirche lounge chair we covered last week). So the warehouse sale might be worth checking out, especially with big discounts.

It takes place this Saturday, 10th July 2010 from 10am to 3am and for one day only. So get there early if you want to take full advantage. Like all warehouse sales, there's little detail of what will be available, only that the company will offer up to 85 per cent off furniture, lighting and accessories. Which sounds worth getting up early for to us.

The address you'll need is 18c River Street, London EC1R 1XN or telephone 0207 837 1900 for more details.

Penny Farthing bicycle gets a modern makeover

Penny

It's an icon of the Victorian age – and now you can get yourself a Penny Farthing, albeit with a modern twist.

It's more or less an accurate replica of the original in shape, with the front wheel a hefty 36 inches, while the rear wheel shrinks down to around 12 inches. The seat, as you can see, is perched high on that angled frame, giving you an elevated view of the world and indeed, the road.
