One of the biggest succcesses for the BBC this year has been Life On Mars – the tale of one man’s trip back to the 70s (in his head via a coma we suspect).
Its mix of nostalgia, humour and gritty realism was a winner – and now the BBC hopes the formula will work in the US. According to Variety, the US version will to be re-made for the US by Ally McBeal creator David E Kelley. ABC has commissioned a pilot episode.
Whether the same three locations used in the UK series will be shipped over to America remains to be seen. Probably not as a new series is being filmed in the fair city from April onwards – and you can imagine the US version will be somewhat grit-free.
