Although you can probably take the ambient genre back deep into the 70s (think Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream or indeed, John Martyn), ambient went overground around 1990/91, with the release of two albums – the KLF’s Chill Out and The Orb’s Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld. 15 years on and the latter gets a deluxe reissue as a 3CD set.
Originally a double album, The Orb’s first album sounded (and still sounds) like nothing else – and because of that, it’s hardly dated. This limited edition offers a digitally remastered edition of the original, plus a John Peel session from December 1989 – apparently the most requested session in the history of the show.
You can pick it up as of today, priced around £17 (or £12.99 at Amazon).
