If you are anywhere near London on Sunday 16th July, you should make an effort to get over to Christies in South Kensington, where around 300 lots of the coolest modern furniture, lighting, mirrors, posters, carpets and pictures are up got auction as part of the Alias Collection of Modern Design sale.
The items are from the Alias Hotels group, who originally purchased them to decorate their hotels in Brighton, Cheltenham and Exeter, with the lots including some of the best names in modern design, from Arne Jacobsen and Gio Ponti to William Platner and Charles & Ray Eames.
Some of the highlights include sputnik lights (estimates from £100), a set of 1930s mannequins (estimate £5,000-8,000) and an inflatable room (estimate: £400-600). But we like this really cool Parrot Chair, made in 1970 by Abre Designs, with a very affordable estimate of £300-£500.
Viewings are from Thursday 13th July at the Christies showroom at 85 Old Brompton Road, London.
