This is enough to give any James Bond fan a cold sweat. Aston Martin is to make reproductions of the Goldfinger DB5.

Yes, if the idea of a Goldfinger Lego set wasn’t exciting enough, you will soon have the opportunity of buying the real deal, complete with the gadgets. Right now would be a perfect time for a Lotto win.

There are 28 cars going into production, with three being held back (one for Aston Martin, one for EON Productions, which produces the James Bond movies and one that being auctioned for charity). The rest are up for grabs if you have access to a lot of money.

Of course, Aston Martin should have the skilled personnel to recreate the classic 1964 Aston Martin DB5, but what of those gadgets? Well, according to Autoblog, the car maker has teamed up with the special effects supervisor from the Bond movies, Chris Corbould, someone who has been working on the series of films since The Spy Who Loved Me.

So no direct experience kitting out this particular car, but someone who has worked on a lot of Bond cars. With that experience, I would hope it is followed up by a remake of the famous underwater Lotus from Mr Corbould’s first Bond movie.

But before that is considered, he needs to make a success of this one, adding in ‘functioning gadgets such as revolving number plates and more.’ I’m not sure what ‘and more’ is, Perhaps the tracking computer and bulletproof shield for example, but I’m not sure if the wheel spikes, hideaway machine guns and ejector seat will make the cut. We will have to wait and see.

Before you ponder how much fun that could be on the road, it is worth pointing out the cars will not be ‘street legal’ because of the added extras. So just something you can keep at home, show off occasionally or use on a track. That might put a few potential buyers off.

Not that the reproductions of Goldfinger DB5 will have mass market appeal. Aston Martin says each car will sell for £2,750,000. If you want one, you can contact Aston Martin now, with the first cars ready to go in 2020. Before you do, can I be your new best friend?
