Moon Armchair

Moonarmchair
Judging by its name, the Moon Armchair was always going to be space-age design made from plastic.  What may come as a surprise is that this isn't a design from the 1960s, but a more recent creation by Hong Kong designer Mike To.

The chair is made from moulded glass-fibre with a high-gloss finish and is available in a choice of colours; orange, black, red, white or bronze.  The chairs normally cost £839 (or £889 for the bronze version), but are available at the reduced price of £439 (£469 in bronze).

Buy the chairs at Fashion 4 Home.

The set comprises of six of each of side plates, dinner plates and soup bowls.  Its quite a big purchase, costing £245 for the set, but less hassle than individually picking out pieces here and there.  Serving platters are also available in two sizes, priced £45 and £65.

Crowel App from the Design Museum

App_newsletter-1
As part of the Wim Crouwel exhibition (which we’ve mentioned before), the Design Museum commissioned the Crouwelclock App.

The App is a graphic alarm clock that also features three personal messages from the designer. So you can wake up to the sound of Crouwel wishing you ‘a nice and well designed day’, reminding you to ‘keep your grid straight today’ or that ‘a grid today keeps the doctor away’.

It costs 59p from the i-tunes store.

VHS Notebooks

Vhsnotebook
There was a time when people disguised their videos in cases that looked like book covers, but now it is nearly obsolete, it seems other products are being made to look like videotapes as with these VHS Notebooks.

There are two options available, either a plain sketchpad or lined notebook. Both measure 19.5cm by 11cmand are supplied in cardboard slip covers, just like the kind that covered blank videotapes.

They cost £12.95 from Pedlars.

Spam Tea Towel

Gkspam2l
Long before it became synonymous with junk emails, spam was beloved of Monty Python fans and remembered perhaps a little less fondly by people forced to eat it during wartime rationing.

Gillian Kyle has chosen to celebrate this retro meat product in her Spam Tea Towel. The 100% cotton tea towel features a line drawing in brown of the tinned meat. The design, thankfully, is much more appealing than a tin of the dubious meat product itself.

It costs £7.50 from To Dry For.
