Mr T. Pott Tea Towel

Tpott_popWe’ve featured umpteen tea towels here and will continue to do so long as companies keep producing interesting designs for dish drying. Our latest find comes from the V&A Shop, the Mr T. Pott Tea Towel.

Designed by E McKnight Kauffer, one of the most influential poster designers of the early twentieth century, it features a picture of Gracie Fields drinking a cup of tea. It was originally designed back in 1936 and has lost none of its impact with its bold yellow and blue background.

It is available from February exclusively from the V&A Shop and can be pre-ordered now for £5.

Nadia Sparham Cog Flower Ceramics

Nadia Sparham may be familiar as we featured her Birdie Cushion some time ago. She has recently Nadiasparhamadded ceramics to her repertoire, which have a similar retro style to her cushions. In particular, the Cog Flower Ceramics range is reminiscent of the best mid-century Scandinavian pottery designs.

Using a palette of muted orange and red, grey and browns, the flowers are childish splodgy designs that will fit in well with any retro kitchen. All of her ceramics use Uk-sourced or recycled pottery.

The range includes plates, mugs and saucers and can be bought from Hidden Art Shop where prices start at £11.95 for a cup. Alternatively, contact Nadia Sparham via her website to buy directly or commission a design from her range.

Termotex Cocktail Snack Dispensers

Other4fClassic Modern specialise in selling genuine original pieces from the 50s, 60s and 70s, which frequently includes items that are hard to find elsewhere. Their current stock includes several Termotex Cocktail Snack Dispensers.

It probably won’t come as any surprise to learn that these date back to the 1970s, when the dinner party was at its most popular. They can be used to dispense straws, twiglets, breadsticks or mints.

Classic Modern has them in beige, brown or black, priced £12 each, as well as a number complete with their original packaging for £20. Their website also reproduces some of the packaging photographs of the dispensers in use back in Seventies, where are worth looking at for a reminder of what stylish affairs dinner parties were back then.

Vintage Mini Glo-Canvas

RedoffDuffy London sell a range of canvases called Mini Glo. Probably the best in the range is the Vintage Shade Mini Glo-Canvas which features a print of a vintage lamp shade against a red wallpaper background.

Flick a switch and a light bulb hidden behind the canvas lights up, giving the illusion that the picture is a real working lamp. Clever, isn’t it?

It costs £55 and can be ordered from the Duffy London website.

Verner Panton Spiral Pendant

Bpopupverpanspiralsp1Space age lighting designs, particularly minimalist white pendant shades, originating in the Sixties continue to be popular and you might be forgiven for thinking that those were the only styles being designed back then. But Verner Panton, as innovative as ever, also designed some more elaborate lights including the Spiral Pendant.

Eschewing the minimalist approach, the Spiral is a lighting solution for those who like things a bit more decorative, even decadent. Made of a multitude of plastic spirals, it is constantly in motion, catching the light from different angles.

It is available from Panik Design in silver, white or gold and in a single, double or triple formation. Prices start at £649 for a single pendant in silver and go up to £3,499 for the triple model in gold.
