Jørn Utzon 1940s Spring Glasses reissued

Utzon_glass

In the past, we have featured a pendant light and a house by Danish architect/designer Jørn Utzon (the man behind the Sydney Opera House). But he was also behind homeware too – like the Jørn Utzon Spring Glasses.

Dating back to 1949, it’s handmade from the ‘highest quality’ of glass and designed to emphasise ‘the space within’ (although that bulbous outer shape is the actual eye-catcher).

Stackable and dishwasher safe, the Spring Glass has been reissued as part of the Architect Made series in a two-piece set, retailing for £43.

Norm 03 space age pendant light – now available in steel

Norm_metal

The Norm 03 pendant light by Normann Copenhagen has already won several awards for its cool space age design – but for me, it’s just got even better with this steel version.

Available exclusively from the Scandinavian Design Center, the stainless steel replaces the original white acrylic finish, but still offers the same ‘spouting’ light effects around the room via those metallic coils.

It’s on pre-order right now, with deliveries taking place from August 2008. You can pick it up for £425.

Brastilo mid-century-style tufted leather chair

Tufted

Not a vintage item, but the Brastilo tufted leather chair makes no secret of its mid-century inspiration.

This luxurious piece of seating features a curved solid wood frame and what are described as ‘superbly crafted fine-grain leather cushions’ for comfort. Combined, they form a real focus piece for any living room.

Not cheap though – $2,160, which is around £1,100.

Achille Castiglioni 1970s Frisbi light

Frisbi
Looking for something a little bit different for your ceiling? The Achille Castiglioni Frisbi light could be for you.

Designed in 1978, but still looking as futuristic as ever, the Frisbi features a sheet metal mini shade suspended from the ceiling, shining light onto an opaline polymethylmethacrylate injection-moulded diffuser plate, which is suspended by three fine steel cables.

All of that creates a light fitting with impact, giving off an unusual diffused/reflected light effect. You can pick one up for £199.
