Ikea’s 60s-style Fredrika fabric range

Ikea_fredrika

A new year and a great new addition to the Ikea range – these 60s-style Fredrika fabrics.

It’s the work of Helen Trast, although each seems to take inspiration from those bright and colourful vintage Scandinavian designs (which seem to be very ‘in’ right now).

The fabrics are made from renewable cotton, sold in widths of 150cm. And you can buy a metre of each one for £3.99. See the website for an image of each fabric unfolded.

Frederick Kiesler Instrument Chair

088384_pop

Sales are on everywhere now, including it seems museum shops! The V&A shop, always a favourite for classic and quirky designs, has reduced a lot of its stock but the biggest reduction must surely be on the Frederick Kiesler Instrument Chair, reduced from £1,200 to £600.

Kiesler was an architect, stage designer and writer, who became involved with the Surrealists. He defined 18 different ways of using the Instrument Chair – the picture above shows it in a few different positions, although to discover the other variations, you’ll probably have to buy one.

Further details are on the V&A Shop website but it does look as if you’ll have to go into the shop in person to buy your Instrument Chair.

eBay Watch: Dieter Rams-designed Braun SK 55 tabletop stereo system

Rams_stereo

Good design never goes out of fashion. In fact, I’d say that this Dieter Rams-designed Braun SK 55 tabletop stereo system looks every bit as stylish today as it did when it first hit the shelves.

That was between the early and mid 1960s and over 40 years later, this one is in reasonable condition, with a working record player and radio, but a few bumps and scratches, a missing weight for the tone arm and a rather untidy extended cable.

But none of that seems a big issue, with most easily repaired, leaving you with a ‘white coffin’ that’s increasingly collectable, incredibly stylish and an absolute steal at its current £8 price point (with worldwide shipping available). Check out more images via the link below.

David Hicks limited edition Flower cushion

Hicks_cushion
For anyone unaware, David Hicks was the king of interior design in the 1960s and 1970s – and is currently being rediscovered by a new generation through his vintage books and designs and through new work by his Paris-based company – although today it’s being run by Christophe d’Aboville rather than Mr Hicks, who died in 1998.

This Flower cushion is by d’Aboville, based on a signature Hicks design from the 1960s and using red and pink suede, with just 16 being made for and sold by 20ltd.

The price for this super-rare cushion? £700. Yes, that’s £700 for a cushion, albeit one that should prove a solid investment for the future, just as long as no-one sits on it!

Noble Designs custom-made Art Deco furniture and lamps

Noble
Noble Designs
specialise in handmade lamps and Art Deco furniture, including pieces inspired by leading French furniture-maker Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann – and as all the pieces are custom-made, you can make the final decision on size, colour and finish for just about everything.

We’re very taken by the lamps, including this stunning Scott brushed aluminium table lamp. it has three large large discs over a set of smaller discs and an overall shape that screams the 1930s.

At this point, we usually mention the price, but as all items are purpose-built, there isn’t a specific price point available. If you want a rough idea of how much you’ll need to pay, drop them a line or give them a call.
