Yrjö Kukkapuro’s Karuselli chair

Karuselli
Another timeless chair, this time from Finland – the Karuselli chair.

Designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro, it’s apparently Terence Conran’s favourite chair. And who can blame him -the white fibreglass shell has a comfortable leather covering and a brushed metal support, which allows you to rock and pivot to your heart’s content.

Still looking as cutting edge now as it did when first launched in 1963, it’s not cheap at £2,750, but it’s a great investment.

Stylish retro kitchens from Source

Source_kitchen

Kitchens are a tough one – it’s usually a choice of fitted modern numbers or vintage separates. Here’s another option – these superb retro kitchens from Source.

The company takes original 50s kitchens from two prominent old British companies (C.S.A. in Warwich and Boulton and Paul in Norwich – both of which made their names making fighter planes interestingly), then gives these high quality units a makeover for the modern era, producing something like you see above.

Check out the website for more options. But don’t expect it to be cheap. Prices are "on application", which usually means a high price tag. But that’s what you expect for quality.

Retro Rooms: Kavel and Richard

Kavel_1
Our Retro Rooms feature moves to Sweden, focusing on occasional RTG contributors Kavel and Richard and their Stockholm apartment.

Sadly, they’re leaving this place, but for an even more retro place next month, so they’ve taken the opportunity to send over a couple of snaps before departing. Check out the image to your right for a nice teak cabinet including a ‘Picnic’ china service, Stig Lindberg ‘Berså’ leaf china and Atomium collectables.

And see over for part of Richard’s’ Elvis Library on some very Swedish string shelves and some of Kavel’s bespoke wall art inspired by Blue note artwork. And if you want to see more of Kavel’s work, check out Kavel’s website.

If you want to see your house, room or collectables on this site, just send over a couple of pictures and words of explanation to [email protected] and we’ll show the world!

Nadia Sparham Tweed Birdie cushion

Tweedbirdie
We have featured quite a few cushions recently, but there just seem to be so many great ones out there. This Tweed Birdie one by Nadia Sparham is one I would like to add to my sofa.

Nadia produces a range of designs, and all her cushions are hand made using screen printing, appliqué and embroidery. If you don’t like the idea of the birdie you can pick from one of her other designs and she is happy to try and accommodate specific requirements.

This birdie one is made of wool, silk and tweed and is 40cm x 40cm, and costs £70.
