“Will Patrons Kindly Refrain…” Poster

Swatch_225_sw_imageNo Bombing. No Ducking. No Petting. These warnings should all be familiar to anyone who went to a public swimming pool in the UK in the 1970s/1980s where the ‘Will Patrons Kindly Refrain…’ poster represented the ultimate guide to pool etiquette.

Pedlars has acquired some of these iconic posters from a limited print run. They are being sold framed for approximately £90. The Pedlars site insists the poster should ‘Not to be Used as a Pool Safety Aid’, but I don’t see why not as it still offers sound advice. It could perhaps be hung in the bathroom where the same rules apply.

If the poster wouldn’t go with your décor, it is also available as a tea towel for £9.50.

Micromark Teaexpress – the teasmade returns

Tea_express If one gadget defines an era, it’s the teasmade. Beloved of our parents and grandparents, the teasmade was an essential before the days of designer coffees and busy lifestyles. And now it’s back as the Micromark Teaexpress.

And apart from a change of look, everything is pretty much the same, with the option of a cuppa ready in the morning as you wake or straight away, using the ‘tea now’ function. There’s also an illuminated LCD alarm clock, reading light and a ceramic tea pot included. You just need the cups, milk, sugar and biscuits.

Available now, you can pick one up for around £50.

Eero Aarnio Screw Table

1315The thinking behind the Eero Aarnio Screw Table was that screws are used in every building but mostly hidden away, so he decided to design a product to honour them as visible objects!

Aarnio’s original Screw Table is still in production by Adelta and can be bought online from Design Shop UK. Prices start at approximately £1,400 and go up to approximately £1650 depending on the size and finish of the table.

However, if this is out of your price range but you still want this quirky tribute to industrial design in your home, then Retro Republic are selling their own version inspired by the original at the much more affordable price of £65.

Warhol-style Banana shower adhesive

Slipnomore Digging deep on the French design site Atypyk, we’ve encountered a very smart addition for your bathroom – this Andy Warhol-style Banana shower adhesive.

It works like a shower mat, just peel your banana, stick to the bath or shower (wherever you might stand) and its non-slip surface will stop you from slipping or stumbling as you wash. And of course, they’ll add some retro cool to your bathroom.

Three in a pack, with a pack retailing for 12 Euros (which is around £8).

O-Space Light

Foscarini_ospace1 As its name suggests, the O-Space Light takes its inspiration from the space-age design beloved of the 1960s.

It is available in the traditional pure white or in the more unusual orange pictured here. Once suspended, it does look just like a spaceship hanging in the air. It also plays cleverly with the light so that it changes form depending on the angle it is viewed from.

It is available to buy from Utility Design priced £475.
