Barbara Hulanicki for Habitat Textiles

Hulrug Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki has previous designed wallpaper for Habitat bearing a classy swirl print in purple/sivler or black/white, which is still available. Now, she’s added to this partnership with a line of textiles, under the title of Barbara Hulanicki for Habitat.

The rug pictured here costs £395 and whist its pedigree and pattern are rooted in the past, its design in subtle enough to work with many décor styles. There are also cushions available with the same pattern, in assorted colours priced £30.

Unfortunately Habitat’s UK website does not offer online shopping, but you can find your nearest store there.

Bird Clothes Pegs

Bf281Using a tumble dryer is terribly bad for the environment, you know? So instead, why not hang your clothes out on a line? This in itself is a pretty retro move, but add a touch of European style with Bodie and Fou’s Bird Clothes Pegs.

These pegs are pretty hot items having been featured in the Telegraph and Grand Designs, so if its good enough for them…

Buy yours from Bodie and Fou at the special price of £23.40 for four boxes.

Villalescatole Birch Side Table

Bf248This Birch Side Table bears an uncanny resemblance to the Componibili Storage Unit featured not so long ago. It has the same sleek curves, just fashioned out of wood. These aren’t made by Kartell , but by Villalescatole whose designer Naoko Shintani certainly owes a debt to Anna Castellis Ferrieri.

Anyway, it is still a good looking piece of furniture and being made from wood, it will perhaps fit better in bedrooms as a bedside table than the original metal Componibili units.

Details can be found on the Villalescatole website or you can buy it from Bodie and Fou for around £160.

It was designed by Christian Dell, a Master silversmith, who was Bauhaus’ metal workshop master from 1922 to 1925.

Variant Children’s Clock

Clock202Design from the former East Germany (or DDR) is now highly collectable and here is an interesting example.

Originating in East Germany in the 1970s, this Children’s Clock was made by a company called Variant, about whom I sadly know nothing more. The clock is nonetheless rather splendid, featuring a bright orange case, bold numbers and coloured cogs. Originally it came dismantled, the idea being that the child benefited from the achievement of putting it together. Now it is ready to go, there is no reason why it should just be for a child’s room.

Idylic currently have one available to buy for £27.
