Burlesque style petticoat skirt from Edge Fashion

Petticoat_skirt

Burlesque clothing isn’t something for the shy and retiring, nor is it easy to wear outside the setting of a stage show. Thankfully, sometimes the elements of this 50s exotica are both versatile and classic enough to make fantastic wardrobe staples.

This ruffle petticoat skirt is flamboyant enough for stage wear, while being the perfect underskirt for converting your circle skirts into sassy evening wear. Available in pink, red and black edging, the multi layers make this just as effective as net petticoats, but with an added wearability on its own.

The skirt is available from Edge Fashion in two sizes, thanks to its elasticated waist band, and costs £24.99.

Brio Pull-Along Dachshund

Largedachshund

A pull-along dog has been a feature of many a childhood, but few are as cool as Brio’s Pull-Along Dachshund.

Scandinavian toy manufacturer Brio first introduced its pull-along Dachshund back in 1953. The original dachshund was just 20cm long, but recently they have introduced a larger version, measuring 50cm long. As well as being a classic design, the dog is ideal for developing motor skills, perception and balance.

Funktion Alley stock the large version for £40. The original small version is available at a much cheaper price with Active Toys selling it for a mere £4.99

Volkswagen developing new versions of VW Beetle

Ragster

If you like the modern-day version of the Volkswagen Beetle (which I certainly do – in fact, I own one), you might be interested to know that Volkswagen is currently working on a new range of models.

According to the C4 Cars site, not one new model is being planned, but a few – likely to include a low-slung, two-seater roadster which might look like the Ragster concept above, an SUV-type Beetle (which just sounds plain wrong) and of course, a standard version.

All will be based mechanically on the VW Golf, with technical development in Germany, styling done in California and construction in Mexico. Expect a launch sometime around 2011.

Fifties style dress by JJ Park at Oli

Jj_park

While the high street goes manic for the 40s style tea dress, coming up behind is a huge range of 1950s inspired looks, with many dresses better suited to something more formal.

This spot dress by JJ Park is a great example of fifties inspired evening wear that’s classic and versatile. A great choice of retro frock, this dress avoids the clownish vintage inspiration that tends to look a little like playing dress up. Instead, the result is a classic dress that is still as stylish now as it was 50 years ago.

You can get the dress from Oli online for £70.
