Burgerman_urban_retro

Big news for fans of modern retro artwork, and showing off their love. Jon Burgerman‘s artwork is being made available in various forms of merchandise at the Urban Retro online shop. From the funky egg characters to this great t-shirt with 6 art prints, there’s something with some funk for any of his fans.

The t-shirt and prints set is retailing for a fantastic package price of £21.95. That’s decidedly less than you’d be paying in any gallery.

Smeg and Marc Newson team up to create colourful retro cookers

Smeg_cooker

Sometimes a picture says it all – which is just as well with Smeg’s Marc Newson-designed cookers, as there’s very little information floating about.

It’s the next stage in Smeg’s attempt to take over your kitchen, offering its retro-styled designs  for integrated cooking in a selection of bold/retro colours, throwing in what looks like touch screen controls too.

The prototypes were recently shown off at the Milan Furniture Fair, so they could be in the shops by the end of 2008. Watch this space for further details.

Vitra unveils limited edition George Nelson Pretzel Chair

Nelson_pretzel

On May 29th this year, George Nelson would have celebrated his 100th birthday. And to coincide with that event, Vitra has launched a special edition of one of his best-known designs – the George Nelson Pretzel Chair.

Originally designed back in 1952, the chair is back as a limited edition of just 1,000 worldwide, each made of a high quality palisander veneer as well as being numbered on an aluminium plate with a laser etched serial number and sold with a comprehensive edition folder.

You can pre-order now, but as you might guess, theser aren’t cheap – selling for £1,457.

Affordable retro fashion from Matalan

Matalan_retro

The retro inspiration from the fashion catwalks continues to filter all the way down to the highstreet and beyond, with Matalan being the latest to launch new retro ranges for women. Their Rydell Rocks fifties range and Retro Safari collection do exactly as they say on the tin, offering affordable gear with vintage inspiration.

Taking inspiration from the 40s right up to the 70s, the ranges steal a little bit of vintage inspiration from all over. Some styles are more on the money than others, but there’s something for everyone’s summer and they’re the usual bargain prices.
