Limited edition Nintendo Mushroom scarf

Nintendo_scarf
One for classic gaming fans – a limited edition scarf based on the Nintendo Mushroom.

The scarf is listed as a scarf for men and women, but the crocheted scarf is probably a bit more female than male friendly. And it’s limited because they’re made to order – and if you do order one, you can have a choice of colour away from the green.

Priced at $95 (around £48), the makers ships worldwide.

James Brown: A tribute

Websites and newspapers are full of words talking about James Brown and the impact he had on the world of music and popular culture. Rightly so, but in my view, the best tribute of all is simply the man’s work. Enjoy this clip of JB from 1966 – no words needed.

Saturn retro table lamp

Saturn_table
We’ve covered a lot of lamps recently, but we make no excuses for that – the nights are long and the temperatures are dropping – good lighting is something everyone needs.

And an example of good lighting is this Saturn retro table lamp. It’s a new piece, but very much in the late 60s/early 70s space age style and in a choice of black and white (black featured here because it pictures better – white is probably the best choice for a period 60s look).

Available from US firm Eurway for $149 (around £75). They do online sales for US customers, the rest of us need to email for a shipping cost.

Buying the perfect Jaguar XJS

I love the Jaguar XJS – it’s a symbol of 70s excess that’s improved with age. But having heard the horror stories about build-quality (and not being a mechanic), I could never buy one. So it’s interesting to learn that a company called Knowles-Wilkins Engineering is offering to strip down the old, unreliable XJS and offer you a dream machine in return.

Want to know more? Check out this feature from Top Gear, where James May goes through the faults – and shows what the improved version can do. if you want one, you can visit the Knowles-Wilkins website. But there’s a catch – a renovated model will cost up to £35.000.

Rondo – the retro-styled cat bed

Rondo_catbed
After recently featuring the Le Corbusier dog bed, it seemed unfair to leave cats out – so here’s a superb retro-styled home for your feline friend – the Rondo cat bed.

With a design that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the late 60s/early 70s, the Rondo would sit nicely next to your tulip table, featuring a similar stand in brushed stainless steel and a choice of homes in either felt, wicker or leather. There’s also a colour choice of cushions, with replacements available when it starts to get a bit worn.

Available from Cat Interiors, they retail for around £400. Well, style doesn’t come cheap, even for a cat.
