Very much of its space-age era, the 1970s Onfale table lamp by Luciano Vistosi is still available to buy today.

When you think 1970s space age design, you probably think of something like this. An organic mushroom shape, the white finish and the glass – this is the table lamp you would expect in any hipster’s pad of the era. The kind of thing that would appear in the backdrop of a stylish 1970s Italian thriller too.

In fact, this is still a hip design today. Yes, the Onfale table lamp is as ‘70s as it comes, but that look is still a strong one today and if you are looking for a feature light with character and retro appeal, this is one to check out.

A quality piece too. This 1978 design for Artemide (who still produce it today) is crafted pretty much entirely from blown opaline glass, with a transparent edge around the rim for a lovely finishing touch. According to the retailer, it’s also ‘manufactured to exacting standards’ by Artemide, which I really do not doubt.

Much copied, but the original is where you want to be if you have the money to spare. The Onfale table lamp is available in three sizes (small, medium and large), with pricing based on the size you opt for.

But that price does start at £313 if you want one in your 1970s-inspired living room.
