Fi-Hi Urban DJ cassette cross-fader – home DJing made easy

We love the Fi-Hi Urban DJ for many reasons, not least because it uses the profile of an old cassette.

And it’s a useful but of kit too. What does it do? Well, it sets you up as an impromptu DJ – just hook up any two of an iPod, iPhone, MP3 player, CD player, mobile phone  or similar to access all the tunes contained within them. Then hook up to an audio system to get started on some (not so) serious mixing. There’s even a headphone monitor so you can cue up the next tune.

Powered by 2x AAA batteries (good for 8 hours of solid music) and available as a gold or silver cassette, it sells for $30 (around £20), with shipping worldwide.

1930s-style Gentleman’s Wool Jacket

If you’re after a winter coat that offers a little more style than most, you might want to check out this 1930s-style Gentleman’s Wool Jacket.

The cloth itself has been woven by Fox Brothers in Somerset using traditional methods, creating something that’s warm and resistant to wind and rain. The ‘sports’ jacket itself is made by a vintage tailoring firm in Germany (Kastell), offering that wool plus cotton and horse hair for shape and detail, a four-button front (with optional collar fastening), centre vent at the back, two patch pockets, inside pockets and button cuffs.

Made in limited numbers, you can pick one up for £415.

Mondaine Evo classic large-faced watch

Not exactly super sized, but the Mondaine Evo watch does offer more of that classic Mondaine watch face.

Regular readers will recognise it instantly as the face of the classic 1940s railway clock, the work of then-employee Hans Hilfiker and still in use today.

The Evo keeps things plain and simple, with an increase in face size (42mm diameter), a quartz movement, stainless steel case and a leather strap. Yours for around £112.

Cassina 1930s Utrecht armchair

Over 70 years old and still looking as unique as ever – the Cassina Utrecht armchair.

Designed by Gerrit T Rietveld back in 1935, the Utrecht is built around a steel frame with polyurethane foam and polyester padding combining to give the impression of a ‘floating’ chair, even though it’s as solid as any chair on the market.

Take your pick from a leather or fabric finish, with prices starting around the £1,700 mark.

Alessi Presepe nativity scene

Presepe

We rarely get excited about Christmas decorations – but we very much love the Alessi Presepe nativity scene.

A modern design (by Massimo Giacon), it’s reminiscent of the mid-century Alexander Girard characters, while the ‘stable’ takes a different retro route – going for a bit of 70s space age.

It’s made of porcelain, with the red version (above) added to the original white version this year. And of course, you get all those figures, which you’re free to move around, should you want to add your own spin to the scene.
