Houndstooth Circle Skirt by Alexander McQueen

Amcq

Circle skirts are always a popular choice for 1950s looks, and while there are plenty of great reproduction versions for summer, they don't have to stay confined to the warmer months' wardrobe. This Alexander McQueen version has the fifties silhouette down to perfection, with the addition of the best modern craftsmanship.

Made in a delicately sized houndstooth sprint, the 100% fleece wool fabric gives the circle shape some show-stopping structure. It also ensures it's heavyweight and warm enough to make it the ideal version for the coming winter months.

It's currently available online from Matches Fashion for £1015.

Bloomsbury Patterned Shoeboxes

I48bad8b6e7daa

I’m always on the look out for storage solutions, but so far I’ve yet to find anything to keep my shoe collection under control. But with the discovery of these Bloomsbury Patterned Shoeboxes, I think I may have the answer.

Measuring 30cm (w) x 32cm (d ) x 15cm (h), the boxes have a window at the front, so you can see which shoes are inside without opening all of the boxes. Of course, what I really like about the boxes, is the patterned exteriors, which are available in a choice of green and yellow florals, red star burst pattern or a blue geometric print.

The boxes cost £16 each from Berry Red.

Cherry Top from Hollywood Flame

Cherry top

Cherry print is a great, easy way to an instantly recognisable rockabilly look, while firmly staying away from being too cartoonish. This Cherry Top from Hollywood Flame combines the print with a 50s shape to make a top that's very retro.

The use of a halter neck with a perfectly placed square-neck shape creates a flattering decolletage. With the bust emphasised by a ribbon and bow detail, the top fits the figure but keeps away from being too skintight thanks to a firm fabric.

Made in Britain, it's available in blue or red from Hollywood Flame for just £19.

Max c

There's an endless stream of 60s look coats on the market, whatever you're looking for, but finding outerwear from other retro eras isn't so easy. This 50s Pea Coat from Max C is a really versatile and genuine fifties look choice.

Made from a shiny cotton, it's light enough for all year round. The contrast collar works well with navy to give a coat that's perfect for regular wear but still makes a statement. A cinched waist and cuffs, large patterned buttons and a mid thigh hem finish this off to give a girly retro feel.

Get it from Oli for £70.

Foale1

If you happen to be in the capital from October 23rd 2009 through to February 2010, make a point of heading down to the Fashion and Textile Museum to check out Foale and Tuffin: Made in England.

If you don't know, Foale and Tuffin were two of the more influential London-based designers in swinging London, with the label described as 'was what cool girls wore' – most notably, colourful, pop-inspired mini-dresses and trend-setting trouser suits. The exhibition will recreate their boutique, showroom and design studio, charting the story of the two women and of course, showing off some hip 60s fashions.
