V&A offers exclusive Supremes style with the Love Child t-shirt

Lovechild

In 1968, The Supremes had something of a makover – ditching the ball gowns for ‘street’ styling and going for a grittier sound for the Love Child album. And you can get that look with the V&A’s exclusive Love Child t-shirt.

Based on the top worn by Diana Ross on that album sleeve, the t-shirt is being made available in limited quantities by the V&A to coincide with The Story Of The Supremes exhibition being held at the museum.

You can pre-order now, with the shirts shipping from mid-May. Could be one of the t-shirts to be seen in this summer – and it retails in various sizes for just £18.

Thoroughly modern retro from Milly

Milly

You might not recognise the name Milly, another of the myriad of designer brands that slips under the radar, but from this Summer on it seems this particular fashion house could be one to watch for retro lovers.

Their Summer collection for this year features a large range of dresses with huge retro features, largely prints, which have been brought right into the modern. With bright colour palettes, 50s, 60s and 70s inspiration is given it’s own fresh twist. The collection is currently available online from Net-a-Porter.

Mid-Season sale now on at Topshop

Topshop_sale_retro

High street shops may not always be reliable for retro shopping, but when it comes up trumps it’s a great way to save some pennies on filling your wardrobe. Topshop‘s current mid-season sale has a few great bargains with great looks too.

The shop’s website is selling out fast, so if you want to snap up any of these pieces you’ll have to be quick. My favourite is the vanity case handbag which is currently selling for just £10.

PPQ/Ben Sherman Five Decades of Dresses

60dressClothing labels PPQ and Ben Sherman have collaborated together on a range entitled "Five Decades of Dresses".  Each dress in the range reflects a different decade and the music style associated with the period.

Starting with the 1960s and mod, the collection continues through 1970s(rock) , 1980s (ska), 1990s (Britpop) up to the present decade (indie).

Predictably, the earlier decades have the better dresses with a Twiggy-esque black and white shift dress for the 60s and a purple paisley print shirt dress for the 70s, although the simple striped number for the 90s isn’t bad either.

All five dresses cost £175 and can be ordered online from the Ben Sheman website.

New “50’s” collection at Warehouse

Warehouse_50s

The myriad of retro and vintage inspired lines on the high street of late have generally been quite impressive. While some favour a stab at authenticity, many have gone full tilt for a modern take on retro influences. With all that, though, Warehouse’s new 50’s collection is the downfall.

While there are a few pretty pieces and all at great prices, the range neither updates the style nor truly gets the look back spot on. The result is some nice skirts and dresses and the rest looking a bit like frankly rubbish filler. Not exactly inspirational, but worth a look for some wardrobe filling bargains that will wear with anything.

Vintage inspired paisley scarves at Miss Selfridge

49l12apnk_normalAs the winter months leave us at last its out with the wool and in with the summer scarves. It’s a great way to wear a retro print in moderation, and that’s where this Marrakesh Scarf from Miss Selfridge steps in.

Available in this pink colour scheme, or a dark purple alternative, this vintage inspired paisley number is a great looking homage to 60s/70s ethnic inspiration. The name is rather apt, too, what with many an icon of the time tripping off to the Morrocan city for some herbal relaxation.

The scarves are available now online or in the shops for a very reasonable £12.
