Turn your iPhone into a vintage HP scientific calculator

Iphone_hp

Want to do something retro with your distinctly modern Apple iPhone? You could change it into a vintage scientific calculator, courtesy of this HP app.

For the calculator obsessives out there, you can change the touchscreen of your iphone into a HP 12c, HP 12c platinum or HP 15c scientific calculator, each one a replica in terms of both layout and functionality, so perfect for boffins wanting some old school cool. Also if you turn it around, you get the same calculator with a difference layout (vertical to horizontal), although that also means you can't type rude words by flipping it upside down.

Depending on your choice of calculator, prices range from $14.99 to $29.99.

Ghost camera - commemorating the polaroid in ceramic

Ghost camera

Okay, the polaroid camera does still live on in various guises. But the original model continues to be commemorated in various ways, not least this ceramic called the Ghost Camera

The piece recreates the look of the camera in earthenware, using a white glaze to emphasise the 'ghost' in its title. It is a fitting reminder of the timescale of its now redundant technologies in comparison in comparison to ceramics which have survived for thousands of years.

Glazed and handcast in Portland, Oregon, it costs $60 and is sold by the San Francisco based Yellow Owl Workshop.

Fred Perry vintage-style laptop bag

Perry_laptop

Laptop bags seem to be getting more interesting of late. Over on Switched On Set, we featured the classic Lacoste x Apple bag earlier this week and now we've spotted this Fred Perry vintage-style laptop bag.

Very much in the style of Fred Perry's current messenger bags and holdalls, this variation throws in inside straps and padding for your notebook's protection and with adjustable straps, it should be good to go with most laptops.

Complete with shoulder straps and Fred Perry detailing, it sells for £40.

Meet David Bailey at the Olympus EP-1 camera launch in London

Ep1_1

To say we were blown away by the Olympus EP-1 Micro Four Thirds camera is an understatement, a mix of high-end technology and old school looks, it's the camera we really want to own this summer. If you want to get up close and personal with one, you can do so at Jessops in central London - and meet David Bailey as an added incentive.

Some versions of the retro-styled camera will be on sale on the night, while others can be pre-ordered so you get one as soon as they land. If you do pre-order, Jessops is apparently giving away a free 'Cross' pen to the first 50. we've no idea what that is but it's apparently worth £300. And of course, you can get tips off the coolest photographer in the history of the world too.

If you can't get to the Jessops New Oxford Street branch on 25th June at 6pm, the full range of EP-1 cameras has just gone online, you can check them out (and prices) via the link below. Alternatively, see over the page for the classic David Bailey Olympus ad from the 1970s - we just couldn't resist putting it up.

Lomo LC-A camera is 25 years old - and gets discounted for a day

Lomo_lca

The first-ever Lomo camera is 25 years old and to celebrate, you can pick up the Lomo LC-A on the cheap for one day only.

First produced in the (then) Soviet Union in 1984, it was designed as a workhouse' camera for everyday photography, complete with the iconic Minitar 1 lens for vivid, wide angle images and auto exposure for great snaps in all light. it was the camera that led to the Lomographic Society and the rest, as they say, is history.

The camera is still being made as an almost perfect replica (in China) and you can buy one on Friday 19th June with a 25 per cent discount. That means the £234 asking price for the basic model should drop to something like £175 tomorrow. Also that day, there's 10 per cent off everything in the Lomo online shop - but only for the day.

Olympus launches the retro-styled E-P1 Micro Four Thirds camera

Ep1_2

No, this isn't something from the archives of Olympus, this is a very modern piece of photographic kit - the Olympus E-P1 Micro Four Thirds camera.

What's that you ask? Well, it's a new type of camera, sitting somewhere between a compact camera and a pro-friendly digital SLR - offering the lightness and portability of the former and the high-end features of the latter. The result is something that offers top-notch images without adding weight to your bag, throwing in some retro style as a much-appreciated added bonus.

1970s Trimphone returns at Colloco

Trim1

A relic of a bygone era will return in a slightly adapted form very soon - the 1970s Trimphone.

It's being brought back at Colloco, offering much the same in design as you probably remember from growing up, including that geometric design, the handset resting across the top of the phone and as a nice finishing touch, the centre disc for your phone number and the number of the emergency services.

This being 2009, the dial has gone, replaced with push button controls that look like a dial from a distance. After all, what would you do without that hash key? They will be available in purple, green, pink, white, turquoise and red from August, priced at £38.95 each. See over for another of the colour options.

Geneva Lab Model L retro-styled audio system

Geneva

The old meets the new with this incredibly cool Geneva Lab Model L retro-styled audio system.

At first glance, you might think this is all about the looks - and there's no denying that the vintage-style walnut veneer cabinet and chrome-plated floor stand are certainly eye-catching. But it's also a high-end piece of audio, with a mix of deep bass and crystal clear highs, along with a universal iPod dock, slot loading cd and FM radio with digital tuner, not to mention a remote to keep up with it all.

Obviously it doesn't come cheap, with prices starting at £849.

Vita Audio R2i retro-styled tabletop audio system

Vita_r2i

Back in 2007, we featured the original Vita Audio R2 audio system, impressed with its retro looks coupled with its high-end audio. So we're glad to see a new version of the tabletop system on the market for 2009 - the Vita Audio R2i.

Thankfully, Vita Audio hasn't messed with those retro looks and is still offering a nice walnut veneer finish, along with glossy black and white options. In terms of improvements, the R2i offers an enhanced audio receiver that offers DAB, DAB+ and FM radio, a universal dock for all iPods, 20w of output, 3D sound and some neat finishing touches, including gold-plated phono sockets and a separate volume setting for headphones. If you fancy having it by the bed, it even doubles as a very stylish alarm clock.

Check out over the page for an image of the glossy version, with prices starting at £279.99 from the likes of Selfridges, Harrods, House of Fraser, John Lewis and the Conrain Shop.
