Warrior trainers – 1970s Chinese casual wear plus commemorative book

Apparently, back in the 1970s, the only trainers to have in China were Warrior trainers – and even this home-grown brand was hard to find. They’re also hard to find today – but for very different reasons.

That’s because the free market brought in the rest of the world’s market – so Warriors became a thing of the past. However, one Chinese-born graphic designer (Shumeng Ye) is bringing them back, creating a limited edition book packed with photos of people in China still wearing Warriors (mainly the elderly and poor it seems) to show their cultural significance.

You can buy the book now, sold in special edition Warrior packaging and sold with a pair of original Warrior trainers. The whole bundle is priced quite reasonably too – 65 Euros.

Additional note:

It seems like the stock at Colette is now sold out. But don’t despair – I’ve tracked down the publisher’s site and the shoes/book are still available directly from there is most sizes. Note that the item is limited to just 420 worldwide.

You can find the official website at Book Of Warriors.
