You might know the maker as I featured the more traditional designs by Inscapes Design some time ago. They were very popular and still worth a look if you want the ‘classic’ Sputnik finish in various metal finishes.

But what if you want some more colour in your living room? The answer is simple: have a look at the handmade midcentury modern designs by the same maker.

Inscapes Design has made a name for its handcrafted, solid brass lighting, each produced in small workshops with an eye on quality and being built to last.

Plenty of designs are available—Sputnik or otherwise—and you should check out the full range on the maker’s site if you are on the hunt for a retro-looking light fitting. But before you do that, let’s talk about colourful chandeliers.

Because they are, for me, the standout design. Granted, you’ll need a ceiling and a room size that is capable of taking one. But if you tick both of those boxes, there are designs here guaranteed to ‘wow’ your guests and instantly turn an ordinary room into a midcentury modern statement.

I have picked a few out here to give you an idea, most of which are variations on a theme. A choice of metallic finish for the body of the light, with a selection of colourful lacquered shades darting out from it. How many depends on the design you go for. If you want to tweak the design, you can do that. The beauty of handmade means you get an input before it’s made.

Prices inevitably vary but hover around the £300-£500 mark, which isn’t bad for something so substantial and handmade. As I said, have a look and see what you think about the maker’s site.
