Going straight onto my Christmas list is the upcoming Vintage Motels book by Ellie Seymour, published by Luster.
I’m adding it to my Christmas list because it doesn’t land until October, which is the perfect time for gift buying. And it’s priced in gift territory too, so all the better.
But I want it because of the content. The previous images are amazing. The author has explored 40 historic motels across the USA, capturing their ‘mid-century modern revival’ over 4 to 6 pages, with a detailed narrative and a mix of archival and contemporary images.
According to the write-up, each of the 40 historic motels has been ‘transformed into an inviting boutique hotel while honouring its past’. So, capturing a look, but also offering itself as a rather cool travel guide too. And if you are reading this site, I can imagine that sitting in a retro motel, sipping a cocktail whilst planning your next day of travel is probably the perfect way to spend some downtime.
But even if you can’t see yourself travelling to one, you can transport yourself with the images within. Perfect retro coffee table material.
256 pages and out on 20th October 2025, you can pre-order now priced at £27.95.
